Learning Services offers two developmental writing courses: Basic Writing and PA Writing for Support for Elements of Writing, Composition I and Composition II. Students who register for these courses have access to the Learning Services state-of-the-art computer lab to complete their writing assignments.

Basic Writing

Basic Writing is a three-credit developmental course and is a good choice for students preparing to take Elements of Writing. Basic Writing is different than PA Writing for Support in that it is a lecture credit class as opposed to a lab course. This course is designed for students who have been out of school for some time and need a refresher OR for students who desire to improve their writing skills in order to be more successful. If you find writing difficult, frustrating, or downright painful, this course may be for you. The course is focused upon reaching a specific aim with all course work aligned to rubrics and standards. Students earn a letter grade that is figured into their overall GPA, and that grade is based upon performance and improvement over the course of the semester.

PA Writing for Support for Elements of Writing, Composition I and II

PA Writing for Support for Elements of Writing, Composition I and Composition II is offered for one credit. Students receive two hours per week of individual lab help on writing assignments for these English courses throughout the entire semester. This is an excellent opportunity for students to strenghten their writing skills and performance in the writing course they are taking. PA Writing for Support is graded on a P-Pass or Q-No Credit basis.
