The Testing Center, located in 2055 Cedar Hall, provides a variety of services and proctoring a variety of tests and exams including Perception Testing, CE6 Testing, ACT High Stakes Testing, ESL (English as a Second Language) testing, makeup of course exams, Anytime/Anywhere testing, and correspondence exams.
The Testing Center hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Anytime/Anywhere and department makeup are given on a walk-in basis. Test must be completed by closing time. Kirkwood accepts several CLEP for credit exams, however, Kirkwood does not administer CLEP tests. The tests can be taken at the University of Iowa. Phone 319-335-0356 to schedule an appointment. If one would like to try to earn CLEP credit for Composition I at Kirkwood he/she needs to take the CLEP exam Freshman College Composition with Essay. COMPASS Placement Testing
| All new Kirkwood students should take the COMPASS Placement tests. COMPASS is a state-of-the-art computer administered placement test that assess a student's reading, writing, and mathematics skills and then recommends the appropriate courses. COMPASS tests are untimed so the students can take as much time as needed to complete testing, and no prior computer experience is necessary to take the computerized tests. COMPASS placement testing can also be taken at any of the Kirkwood Learning Centers in the seven-county service area. ESL Testing
| English as a Second Language tests (the Compass/ESL Placement tests) are administered in the Test Center. Allow two hours to complete the test. Results are presented to the student, who then works with the English Department (3051 Cedar Hall) for placement and registration in ELA (English Language Acquisition) classes, as needed. |
Department Makeup Exams
| Students who miss regularly scheduled classroom exams can, with the permission of the instructor, take makeup tests in the Test Center. Prior arrangements must be made with the student's classroom instructor before taking a makeup exam. |
Anytime/Anywhere and Correspondence Exams
| Exams for all Kirkwood independent study and Internet courses are available in the Test Center as well as correspondence exams for colleges, universities, and other organizations.
ACT Center Certification Testing Learning Services will offer online, certification examinations for a variety of boards and licensing bodies.
Other Testing Services
The National Crime Index Computer (NCIC) for dispatchers of fire, police, and other government agencies is offered on a scheduled basis in the Test Center. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification testing is provided for EMT personnel, which includes the National Registry examination for Basic and First Responder. Anyone wanting to take the above tests should call the Test Center and schedule an appointment, 319-398-5456. These certification exams are NOT given on a walk-in basis.
