"Introduction to Disabilities Services"

Introduction to Disabilities Services is an introduction to people with disabilities, services for people with disabilities from birth through adulthood, and related careers.


 

Introduction to Disabilities Services students interact with faculty and speakers, engage in disability awareness simulations, and share service learning projects.

 

 

 Course Description:

Introduces the careers related to working with people, including people with disabilities.  The course includes the philosophy of special education, an introduction to ways children with disabilities learn, information specific to disabilities, ways to work with families, and working as members of a team.  Students also become familiar with services for adults with disabilities, develop communication skills, use adaptive technology, learn about different career pathways in disabilities services, and complete service learning projects.

Who Could Benefit From the Course? Anyone who wants to work with people, especially those interested in working with people with disabilities.
