This list was constructed for the first time in January and February 2006, a collaboration by Kirkwood librarians Sarah Uthoff, Nancy Obermueller, Annie Locher and KCELT director, Hope Burwell. If we have missed a site you find useful and pertinent in your discipline, or you find one of the links dead, please send the information to Hope Burwell at hburwell@kirkwood.edu.

Has worked hard to open NEH seminars and institutes to community college faculty and two of the offerings this year are headed up by community college faculty. The seminars typically run longer than the institutes, are smaller, have a single scholar, and tend to be more traditionally academic. The institutes typically are shorter, have a number of experts, involve more participants, and often have a “hands on” component (e.g., field trips in Appalachia or Central America). Participants receive stipends that usually cover costs. Application deadline is March 1. You can learn about current year offerings by going to the NEH website. (http://www.neh.gov/) or email sem-inst@neh.gov.
- Summer Stipends
Support individuals pursuing advanced research that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the public's understanding of the humanities. Recipients usually produce scholarly articles, monographs on specialized subjects, books on broad topics, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly tools. Summer Stipends support full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two months. Because of that last requirement, NEH Summer Stipend Recipients must decline any Kirkwood extended contract for that year, or if you are a 201 contract holder, must waive your 201 for a 174 for the academic year. http://www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/stipends.html
