Kirkwood Community College and area economic development organizations including Benton Development Group, Cedar County Economic Development Commission, Iowa City Area Development Group, Jones County Economic Development Commission, Marion Economic Development Company, Priority One and Washington Economic Development Group, are cooperating to develop the Skills 2014 study that updates the area's ongoing workforce needs. We invite you to partner with us for this important economic development initiative.

This new study will provide up-to-date information about employment trends and employee training needs. The study focuses on the area's employment and training needs in the following regional industry sectors:

  • education
  • government
  • health care
  • information solutions
  • logistics/distribution
  • packaging/plastics
  • printing
  • trades
  • other selected industries

The Skills 2014 report builds on the continued efforts to identify and develop workforce tools to build the greatest business success. In addition, the Skills 2014 report reflects the successes of the recommendations outlined in the Skills 2010 report and builds on the first Skills 2000 report. Progress reflecting the nine Skills 2010 recommendations is remarkable. The Skills 2010 Report Update identifies the initiatives and improvements to date in each category.

Your participation will allow your business an opportunity for input to develop tomorrow's workforce based on your business needs. Your sustained participation will also provide data to guide public policy concerning the types of workers and education needed to meet growth projections, changes in employment, demographic and technology needs of area companies.
