The pilots of Flight 965 were expertly trained, highly skilled and very experienced. Yet they were lulled into a false sense of security and a disregard for standard operating procedures that led to a series of human errors and, ultimately, the deaths of 160 people.
This one-of-a-kind presentation puts safety into the proper perspective and vividly demonstrates that the mistakes these pilots made are the same mistakes that anyone, in virtually any industry, can make. Using the factual account of the crash of Flight 965 and safety investigation findings as anchors, Mercedes drives home the profound impact of individual choices and the devastating results of ignoring safety procedures. Participants will distinctly understand the difference between knowing about safety and putting safety into action.

On behalf of Kirkwood Community College, we would like to invite you to participate in the 2027 Kirkwood Safety Conference.
Conference attendees will include area manufacturers and other local industry, educational partners with a safety focus, contractors and unions. Based on last year’s attendance, we are anticipating approximately 250 attendees.
Registration is $370, which includes booth, lunch for one, internet access, and entrance to the conference sessions. Vendors are expected to be on display until the start of the last breakout sessions.
Conference registration opens at 7:00am with the keynote speaking at 8:30am.
Exhibitor Information
Set-up for the vendor booths will be from 6:00am-7:00am the day of the conference.
One 6′ x 3′ table with two chairs provided to each exhibitor.
Electrical power is provided upon request.
One lunch is included in the registration fee and additional lunches can be purchased for $35 per person.
Exhibitor space will be limited, and reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tables are assigned to exhibitors at random within the exhibit space.
