Admissions, Student Life & Campus Health Five-Year Vision

The Admission/Student Life/Campus Health team is comprised of diverse individuals, all of whom have a vested interest in the success of the College. Our department impacts all stakeholders, primarily new students. As such, we are strong advocates for all students.

The visioning process serves as a helpful process and necessary reminder of our complete and total dedication to Kirkwood Community College’s mission – identify community needs, provide accessible quality education and training and promote opportunities for lifelong learning. We intend to accomplish our goals by remaining a student-centered department intent on enabling students to reach their highest potential.

Major Initiatives

Continuous Kirkwood growth

  • Expand travel/recruitment area to include every Iowa high school and select national college fairs
  • Enhance TGIF campus visit program
    • Increase parent/student satisfaction
  • Implement a communication management plan for prospective students
  • Expand and strengthen adult recruitment and support programs
    • Full-time adult specialist

Continuous improvement in stakeholder relationships

  • Promote annual “Welcome Back Day” to both new and returning students
  • Initiate an annual fall “Family Day”
  • Develop Student Mentor program
  • Establish Residence Advisors at all student apartment complexes
    • In cooperation student housing department

·         Initiate a high school counselor advisory committee

·         Develop a “For Parents Only” web link from the homepage

Improve communication about Student Life events

  • Develop KAPS officer positions within Student Senate for promoting and assisting in campus wide events
  • Utilize Eagle-Net communication to inform current and prospective students of student life and campus events
  • Obtain additional signage promoting events in all campus halls and buildings
  • Support and develop informational initiatives for our applicants and students with disabilities
    • Refer to Educational Services Vision

Enhance Student Life programming

  • Develop evening and weekend programming based upon student interest response
  • Streamline ticket purchasing process for plays and concerts
    • By developing “E-Ticket” in coordination with Arts and Humanities
  • Expand programming services to the community as well as to students and staff
    • Will work closely with the Marketing Department to develop a promotion plan
  • Broaden the lecture series through faculty input

Campus Health Services

  • Increase healthcare for all Kirkwood students and staff
  • Improve patient/customer service for all visitors and callers to Campus Health
  • Improve coordination and communication of care for all patients and students
  • Improve and assist development of health promotion and wellness programs

Our team strives to continue to build ongoing relationships, not only with each other, but with all stakeholders. Our mission is not only to recruit students, but to provide support and services to enhance their success. Our department makes every attempt to be flexible and student-centered. We are determined to approach every situation with a “can-do” attitude.
