Arts, A/V Technology and Communications

Get a great start here in a creative career! Show off your artistic flair! Whether it’s acting, writing, painting, music or sculpting, the spirit of fine and performing arts is very much alive at Kirkwood.

Kirkwood students perform in five musical concerts each semester, one or two of which feature nationally known guest artists. Plus, Kirkwood stages three large-scale theatre productions every year. Students help design, produce and act in these performances.

If writing or photography is more your style, join the staff of the Communiqué, our student newspaper. Or, help write and edit Kirkwood’s student-run literary magazine, The Cedar Valley Divide, and gain practical experience reading and editing literary manuscripts, as well as in-depth information about publishing and printing processes.

Arts, A/V Technology and Communications

If you plan to get started at Kirkwood then transfer to a four-year school, you have options. Depending on where you want to transfer and what you want to study, you can earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Sciences degree in Liberal Arts, an Associate of Applied Science degree or take only the classes you need to transfer. Students who earn Associate of Applied Science degrees usually go straight into the workforce; however, some of these programs have transfer agreements with four-year institutions.

Kirkwood’s art, music, theatre, English and communications disciplines provide a framework for you to explore. Deepen your knowledge in one select area, or take courses from more than one area and discover a new field of study!
