BRC: Basic Rider Course

Kirkwood Community College offers a quality motorcycle riding course. It is taught by certified instructors and uses curriculum and methods developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). Courses will impart knowledge and skills to allow person to ride a motorcycle more safely and greatly increase their enjoyment of riding. Students are required to wear sturdy shoes that cover their ankles, jacket or long sleeve shirt, jeans and gloves. Kirkwood will supply helmets, which must be worn at all times when on motorcycles. Students can bring their own helmet but it first must pass an inspection by the instructor.

This course is strongly recommended for anyone who is considering the purchase of a motorcycle and/or contemplating riding a motorcycle. This rider course is approximately 5 hours of classroom instruction and a minimum of 10 hours of on-motorcycle instruction. MSF completion certificates and Iowa Department of Transportation certificate of completion will be awarded to persons satisfactorily passing this course. Students MUST be 14 years of age or older and have a valid Iowa drivers license or instruction permit to take this course.

Tuition for this course is $155. Tuition must also be paid at time of registration. Any learner not showing paid after that time will be withdrawn from the course.

ERC: Experienced Rider Course

This class is for all persons who have riding experience and their own motorcycle. It is not a substitute for the BRC class. This Rider Course is a minimum of 5 hours of on-motorcycle instruction. Students MUST have their own motorcycle, a valid motorcycle endorsement and proof of insurance to qualify for this course.

Tuition for this course is $95. Tuition must also be paid at time of registration or within three days of registering. Any learner not showing paid after that time will be withdrawn from the course.

 

MSF Instructor Training

Did you ever want to teach someone how to ride a motorcycle?

This aggressive 60/70 hour program will qualify persons who complete all the requirements to TEACH the other Motorcycle Safety Foundation riding courses. Persons who wish to become instructors must own and ride a motorcycle. They must have a good driving record and pass all the requirements mandated by MSF.
