Kirkwood Blue Zones Designation Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Monday, October 27, at 11:30 a.m. on the second floor of Iowa Hall to celebrate Kirkwood becoming a certified Blue Zones Worksite. This is a great opportunity to learn about the steps Kirkwood has already taken to become a designated worksite and to learn more about next steps for the wellness committee.
Blue Zones Healthy Cooking Class
Interested in learning from our expert culinary arts department on different ways to cook and eat healthy? The Wellness Committee is sponsoring a free cooking class for Kirkwood faculty and staff on Tuesday, October 28, from 11:15 a.m.-12:10 p.m. in the Executive Technology Amphitheater at The Hotel. This class will provide participants with an opportunity to learn from culinary arts faculty and students how to cook using plant based items and participants will be able to eat the menu items below at the end of the class. This event is taking place on at the Executive Technology Amphitheater at The Hotel at Kirkwood. Reservations are required and are on a first come, first serve basis - space is limited to 50 participants. To RSVP please email Brett Baumgart at firstname.lastname@example.org. Menu includes:
Grilled sweet potato soup with a marshmallow drizzle
Cous cous salad with apple, cranberries and a honey vinaigrette
Grilled angel food cake with smoked peaches and black berry yogurt filling
Blue Zones Lunch & Learn
Learn the secrets for living a longer, healthier, happier life from the Blue Zones Project. Join us on Wednesday, October 29, from 12-1 p.m. in the Amana Room for a presentation on where you can learn about the Blue Zones Project well-being initiative and also receive updates about Cedar Rapids and Kirkwood Blue Zones. Please feel free to bring your lunch with you.
